Your LESCO bill due date is the single most important date on your electricity bill. Pay the full amount on or before it and you pay exactly what the bill says. Pay after it and a late payment surcharge is added on top. This guide explains what the due date means, what the late payment charge is, what happens after one missed bill compared with repeated non-payment, and simple habits that stop it from happening again.

This is an independent guide. We are not affiliated with LESCO or any government body. Rules and timelines can change, so where something depends on LESCO policy we say so and point you to lesco.gov.pk.

What the LESCO bill due date means

Every LESCO bill shows two amounts side by side: the amount payable within due date and the amount payable after due date. The due date is the last day on which the first, lower amount is accepted. From the next day, banks, mobile wallets and online channels will ask for the second, higher amount.

The due date is not the same as the reading date or the issue date. The reading date is when your meter was read. The issue date is when the bill was prepared. The due date usually falls some days after you receive the paper bill, which gives you time to pay. If your paper bill arrives late or does not arrive at all, the due date does not move, which is why it helps to know how to get your bill another way.

If you have lost the paper copy, you can download your LESCO duplicate bill with your 14-digit reference number and see the due date straight away.

Where to find the due date on your bill

On most LESCO bills the due date sits in the upper part of the bill, close to your reference number, billing month and the payable amount. Look for a line labelled “Due Date”. Right beside it you will see the amount payable within due date and, separately, the amount payable after due date. The difference between those two numbers is the late payment surcharge for that bill.

If you read your bill online, the same fields appear on the online copy. Many people save the online bill as a PDF each month so they always have the due date at hand, even if the paper bill goes missing.

LESCO late payment surcharge explained

The late payment surcharge is an extra amount added when you pay after the due date. On this site we describe it the same way the bill does: it is applied only after the due date and is calculated as a percentage of the payable amount. That means it is charged on the whole bill, including taxes, not just on the energy units.

We do not quote a fixed percentage here, because it is set by LESCO and the regulator and can change. The easiest way to see the exact figure for your bill is to compare the two amounts printed on it. For the full list of charges, see our guide to the taxes and charges on a LESCO bill.

A few points are worth remembering:

  • The surcharge applies to the full payable amount, so a higher bill means a higher surcharge.
  • Partial or deferred payments still attract the surcharge on the unpaid balance.
  • No LESCO officer can simply remove a correctly applied surcharge; if you believe it was applied by mistake, raise a billing complaint.

What happens after one missed LESCO bill

If you miss the due date once, the usual result is simple: the unpaid amount and the late payment surcharge are carried forward to your next bill as arrears. Your next bill will show the new month’s charges plus the arrears, and the total payable will be noticeably higher.

In most cases your supply continues normally after a single missed bill. The best step is to pay the old bill as soon as you can, even after the due date, or pay the full next bill including arrears before its own due date. Paying late is still far better than not paying at all, because the balance stops growing once it is cleared.

What happens with repeated non-payment

When bills remain unpaid for several months, the situation becomes more serious. Arrears keep building, surcharges keep adding up and LESCO can issue a disconnection notice. If the dues are still not cleared, the connection can be disconnected, and restoring it may involve paying all outstanding amounts and any reconnection charges.

The exact steps, notice periods and reconnection rules are set by LESCO and can change, so we do not list fixed timelines here. If you have received a notice, check lesco.gov.pk or visit your LESCO subdivision office to confirm where you stand, and keep the receipts of every payment you make.

How to check whether your bill was paid

Sometimes you pay on time but are not sure the payment reached LESCO, especially if you paid through a mobile wallet or a relative paid for you. Payments made through some channels can take a little time to show. Before you worry, check the payment status online with your reference number.

Our step-by-step guide shows exactly how to check whether your LESCO bill is paid or not, including how to read the payment history and what to do if a payment is missing. Always keep the transaction ID or bank receipt until the payment appears on your record.

How to avoid missing the LESCO bill due date

Most missed bills happen for ordinary reasons: the paper bill arrives late, it gets lost, or the due date simply slips the mind. A few habits fix this:

  • Do not wait for the paper bill. Check your bill online with your reference number at the start of each month.
  • Set a reminder. Put a phone reminder a few days before the usual due date for your area.
  • Pay early in the window. Paying a few days before the due date gives time for the payment to show on your record.
  • Save your reference number. Keep it in your phone notes so anyone in the family can pay quickly.
  • Keep receipts. A screenshot or bank SMS is your proof if a payment does not appear.

Our guide to LESCO bill payment methods lists the channels you can use, from bank apps to mobile wallets.

What to do if the due date has already passed

If the due date is already behind you, do not wait for the next bill. Pay the amount payable after due date as soon as possible through any normal payment channel. If you think the bill itself is wrong, still pay what you can and register a billing complaint, because disputes take time and arrears keep adding up in the meantime. You can call the LESCO helpline on 0800-00118 for billing questions.

The bottom line

The LESCO bill due date decides whether you pay the bill amount or the higher amount with the late payment surcharge. One missed bill usually turns into arrears on the next bill; repeated non-payment can lead to notices and disconnection. Check your bill online each month, pay a few days early, and keep proof of every payment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LESCO bill due date?

It is the last day printed on your bill for paying the full amount without a late payment surcharge. It appears near the payable amount, next to the “payable after due date” figure.

What is the late payment surcharge on a LESCO bill?

It is an extra charge added when a bill is paid after the due date. It is worked out as a percentage of the payable amount, taxes included, and the bill itself prints the higher amount you owe after the due date.

What happens if I miss one LESCO bill?

The unpaid amount, plus the late payment surcharge, is carried to your next bill as arrears. Your connection normally stays on, but you should clear the full amount on the next bill.

Can LESCO disconnect my electricity for non-payment?

Repeated non-payment can lead to a disconnection notice and, later, disconnection. The exact rules and timelines are set by LESCO, so check lesco.gov.pk or ask your subdivision office if you have received a notice.

How can I check if my LESCO bill was paid on time?

Open your bill online with your 14-digit reference number and look at the payment section, or follow our step-by-step guide to checking whether a LESCO bill is paid.
