Find your 14-digit reference number first
Every LESCO connection is identified by a single 14-digit reference number. It is printed in the top-left block of your paper bill, usually directly above the consumer name and address, and it never changes for the life of the connection. Unlike the meter number, which belongs to the physical meter and changes when the meter is replaced, the reference number belongs to the account. That is why every online lookup — bill check, duplicate download, payment at a bank or through a wallet app — asks for the reference number and nothing else.
The digits are not random. The first few identify the LESCO circle and division, the middle block identifies your subdivision and feeder, and the last digits identify your account within that subdivision plus a check digit. If a lookup fails, the most common cause is a single mistyped digit rather than a missing bill, so re-read the number carefully before assuming there is a problem.
- Look for the label “Reference No” on the printed bill — 14 digits, no dashes.
- Ignore spaces: type the digits continuously with no separators.
- The meter number and the reference number are different; only the reference number works online.
- If every copy of the bill is lost, your LESCO subdivision office can retrieve the number against your CNIC.
Check your bill in four steps
The whole process takes a few seconds and does not require registration, a password or an app. Bills are normally published online within two to three days of the meter reading date, so if you check immediately after your reading day you may still see last month's bill.
- Open the bill checker. Go to the LESCO bill check tool and place the cursor in the reference number field.
- Enter 14 digits. Type the reference number exactly as printed. The field accepts digits only, so any stray character is rejected before the request is sent.
- Submit the request. Press Check Bill. The query is passed to the official PITC billing system, which returns the currently issued bill for that account.
- Read the result. Confirm the consumer name and address match your connection, then review units billed, current amount, arrears, due date and the amount payable after the due date.
How to read what the lookup returns
The result page mirrors the printed bill. Units consumed is the difference between the current and previous meter readings. Cost of electricity is that consumption priced through the applicable slab structure. Below it sit the statutory additions — fuel price adjustment, quarterly tariff adjustment, electricity duty, general sales tax, TV licence fee and, where applicable, income tax and financing cost surcharge.
Two dates matter. The due date is the last day you can pay at the printed amount. After it, the higher “payable after due date” figure applies, which includes a late-payment surcharge. If an unpaid balance from an earlier month appears under arrears, clear it promptly: continued arrears are the usual trigger for a disconnection notice.
When the lookup shows nothing
- Record not found — almost always a typo; re-check each of the 14 digits against the paper bill.
- Bill not yet issued — wait until two or three days after your monthly reading date and try again.
- New connection — the first bill can take one full billing cycle to appear in the online system.
- Different name shown — the account may still be registered to a previous owner; apply for a change of name at your subdivision.
Helpful tips
- Save the reference number in your phone contacts so you never depend on a paper copy.
- Check the bill a week before the due date — that leaves time to raise a complaint if the units look wrong.
- Compare units against the same month last year rather than last month; seasonal swings are normal.
Warnings & common mistakes
- Never pay through a link sent by SMS or WhatsApp — use your bank app, an ATM, a wallet app or a 1Link branch with the reference number.
- This site is an independent helper, not LESCO. Always treat the official bill as the final record.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check my LESCO bill without a reference number?
No. The billing system only supports lookup by the 14-digit reference number. If you have lost it, visit your subdivision office with your CNIC or call the LESCO helpline at 118 to have it retrieved.
How do I know whether my bill is already paid?
Run the bill check again after paying. Once the payment is posted, the amount shows as received and no arrears carry into the following month. Bank, ATM and wallet payments usually reflect within 24 to 48 working hours.
Can I see previous months?
Yes. The system retains roughly twelve months of billing history against each reference number, shown as a monthly table of units, amount and payment status.
Is checking my bill online free?
Yes. Checking and downloading your bill is free; only the bill itself has to be paid.
